In a landmark human rights case, the Supreme Court of the United States declared that workplace discrimination against gay and transgender persons is not permitted under US civil rights law.
As the first decision of its kind, this watershed moment for LGBT rights will see more than 50 per cent of States having to review their employment legislation, under which firing individuals based on sexuality or gender identity was previously permitted. The Court extended the protection to all members of the LGBT community, including transgender persons – a huge leap for the transgender community.
